Emily Fox vs. Gort and Klatu, in a stacking duel.

If you haven't seen it, you should view the astonishing display of human dexterity (see the video of Emily Fox) as Emily sets a record by stacking "the Cycle" in a mere 8.22 seconds.

"The Cycle" means up-stacking and then down-stacking three different structures. First a 3-6-3 (a pyramid of 3 cups, next to a pyramid of 6 cups, next to a pyramid of 3 cups), then a 6-6, then a 1-10-1.

Twelve cups, times three structures, divided by the number of hands, divided by the number of seconds, means that Ms. Fox handles 2.19 cups per hand per second.

How do the Yasukawa Motoman Performer MK3 robots compare? The students of 15-384 were asked to program robots to upstack and downstack a pyramid of 6 cups, and to do it no more than twenty times slower than Ms. Fox.

They achieved a best time of 9.51 seconds, or 0.63 cups per hand per second. That's only about three and a half times slower than Emily Fox!
