"Speed Stacking excitement Hits Howard Hall for Students,Teachers and Parents" - March, 2005

"This is Mike Ciani reporting from Howard Hall Elementary. Over the last few months Speed Stacking has taken the school by storm. From comments in the beginning "Your doing what with Cups?" to "Wow let me try!"

To say the least, it has generated interest from the School's traditional Educational "gurus" because recent brain research encourages an Educator to create lessons that "cross the midline in the brain", from left to right and right to left sides of the brain to increase a students brain activity which leads to academic proficiency. The teachers believe that Speed Stacking may lead to higher Test Scores!

Speed stacking and the drive to upstack and downstack has been a total blast for the students. The students want more! Many students have ordered there own Speed Stacks because they can't get enough! My observations during timing activities is that they hate to walk away from the timer with out taking one more shot at lowering their time. And, psst, most students do not realize that it may help them academically, because they're having too much fun Speed Stacking!

Parents have gotten involved too, many have visited Speed Stacking classes to see what all the buzz is about. After watching the students, Parents want a shot at the timer!

The Speed Stacks program is bursting at Howard Hall. There are plans to start an after school club and to challenge other schools who have programs.

Each week, new Speed Stacking school records are being broken, with the new record holder's having there name announced at the end of the week. There's not a day that goes by that I don't hear a student ask a teacher "when are we Speed Stacking again?"

Howard Hall's school motto, "Success for All and Nothing Less" fits like a glove when applied to Speed Stacking. All students find success at some level of Speed Stacking, and they are having a fun doing it!

Signing off till next time, Mike Ciani

[Mike Ciani is a first year Physical Education Teacher at Howard Hall.]
