"Instinctively Fast Hands" - May, 2006

Hello, my name is Jason Hirrschoff and I teach Physical Education at the South Dakota School for the Deaf. I was first exposed to sport stacking at a conference I attened in Lincoln NE. At the time I taught in the public schools in Lincoln and did some stacking here and there but nothing too serious. When I came to SDSD, I thought "what a perfect activity for deaf and hard of hearing students"! They were already so good with their hands. I proceded to show the sport stacking videos and introduce the cups to my students. Wow, were they hooked!!! They picked up the stacking sequences so fast it was unbelieveable!!! By the end of the 2 week unit, they were putting me to shame in many of the stacks!! We continued to stack at lunch recesses and after school, they were always coming to me with new and faster ideas for stacking!

This past weekend many of my studetns entered an open tournament and came away with many medals and trophies. It was awesome to see how proud of themselves they were for their accomplishments!!! Many of them bought their own cups to practice at home! I can't wait to see what they can without me telling them it's time to stop!!!! Thanks for the great activity.
