What are the different sizes of cups used for?

Speed Stacks' Individual Sets are the regular, official, competition sized cup, sanctioned by the WSSA. Without a doubt, these cups are the foundation for sport stacking and are the ones to start with, even for 'small hands'.

The special, weighted "Super Stackers" are for training and use right before you stack at a tournament or competition.

The Mini Stacks are for fun. They are small enough to go with you anywhere. Once you have mastered the regular cups, then you can move on to the challenge of the Minis. Because they are small, there is less "room for error" but they are terrific for fine motor skills.

What are the air holes for in the top of the cups?
Speed Stacks have 3 holes in the "top" of the cup which allows the air to escape quickly on the "down stack". You can stack with faster times using Speed Stacks.   See also:

Can't I use regular plastic drinking cups to stack with?
Most any regular plastic drinking cup will stick together when "nested" with it's other cups. Speed Stacks have been designed with several features which allow them to be "stacked" and "unstacked" at lightning speed. First, they have a special "shoulder" in them so that they don't "seat" all the way down on the next cup and the side walls don't touch causing them to stick. The outside surface of the cup has been "matted" for a good grip and the inside of the cups are very slick. When "nested" together, a nice space between the rims of the cups allows for fingers to separate the cups easily for "up stacking".

What do all the words you use mean?
As in any sport, Stackers have their own set of terms and vocabulary to help define and explain how the sport functions.   See also:

What are the benefits of sport stacking?
Sport Stacking is a sport that not only develops important physical skills, such as hand-eye coordination, quickness and focus, it also promotes self-confidence, teamwork and good sportsmanship, to name just a few.   See also: More about the benefits of Speed Stacks.

Being a beginner, I was wondering, is there any clues to becoming any better or faster at sport stacking?   See also: Stacker Tips

We have found the best way to get faster is to simply PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE! In addition, here are a few hints.....be sure that you hold your Speed Stacks with a nice "light, soft" touch. Never squeeze your cups. Also, be sure to allow gravity to do the work on your down stacking, never "slam" your cups down. Make sure you are using your "pinky" finger on the bottom cups in each hand of your 6 stack and 10 stack. Hope these tips help you out!

What does a school need to know to get started?

Speed Stacks has a lot of teaching experience on hand to draw from. We assembled a "Sport Pack" with lesson plan and materials. We are also available to help train through workshops. We are passionate about sharing the benefits of the sport with schools.   See also: Beginning a sport stacking program

How can you learn sport stacking?   Others may also be sport stacking in your area in stacking clubs or in a school program. Check it out.
We have put together an Stacker DVD that takes you through all the fundamentals. We think it is a great place to begin.

The Speed Stacks Story

Sport stacking has been around for over 20 years and although I am not the first to come up with the sport, I AM the inventor of SPEED STACKS. Like you.... we believe Speed Stacks help kids (and adults) with their motor skill development and eye-hand coordination. Keep on stacking!

    What are special stackers?
Special Stackers are kids and adults who have some "special needs". It might be that they are blind, or have autism, or limited use of one side of their body.

Where can I see a presentation on sport stacking?

Speed Stacks travels to many of the AAHPERD state conventions and presents sport stacking. We hope to see educator there.

We also put on workshops and assemblies - give us a call.
