"Sport stacking is a unique activity that I have used with students of all ages. I see "stacking" providing many benefits for my students and include this activity in my yearly plan.

I am amazed each time I teach stacking - amazed at the number of students who struggle with using their non-dominant hand and moving across the midline. More often than not, these same students are having a difficult time reading.

With all of the current information available relating to brain research, stacking certainly provides one more opportunity for us to help students achieve academic success.

Integrating physical activity into the classroom...
This is also one activity that students can take back to the classroom. I have given each classroom teachers several sets of cups for them to use in their rooms. Teachers love having this as a choice for students who may finish their work early, to use at a learning center, or to have available for indoor recess. What a great way to encourage integrating physical activity into the classroom!

In conclusion, I have found many new ideas and pieces of equipment to use in my class over the last few years. Sport stacking is one that I have and will continue to include simply because it is good for kids and good for a quality physical education program."

NASPE Content Standards...
"The real driving force in my curriculum planning comes from our NASPE Content Standards.

With improved hand-eye coordination, student's motor skills (NASPE Standard #1) will also improve.

We include a variety of ways for students to challenge different partners to stacking races. This is a positive way to promote social skills and the acceptance of people whose skills vary (NASPE Standard #5 and 6).

And finally, stacking is an activity that students can do outside of the physical education setting (NASPE Standard #3). Anytime we can get students interested in a variety of activities that they will do at home or at recess time, students certainly benefit in the long run."
