| Event: Islington Schools - Sports Stacking Competition When Pania Moloney a learning mentor from Rotherfield School in Islington first introduced Sport Stacking to students in her school last year, she couldn’t have expected just how much impact the sport was going to have on her life! Not only did she become the Sport Stacking coach at her school, she also became a point of contact for the other schools in the area that were hearing all the great things about Speed Stacks and wanted to know more! This year she also travelled to the World Sport Stacking Championships in Denver, Colorado to support one of the students from her school! Pania who held a successful school competition last year, invited schools from across Islington to send teams to compete in an Islington schools competition. The competition attracted 120 students who had a fantastic time participating in the different events. Speed Stacks were on hand to help with proceedings and to make sure things ran smoothly. The
overall winner of the Cycle Stack was Joseph Small who not only
won Gold in the competition but also earned himself a call up to
the Great Britain Sport Stacking Team and a trip to compete at
the World Championships!

Event: Latchmere
Junior School Sport Stacking Competition Emma Ash a teacher at Latchmere Junior School introduced Sport Stacking to her students the previous year when she started a Speed Stacks Sport Stacking Program. This proved very popular with her students who were soon purchasing their own sets of Speed Stacks and were improving their times at a fantastic rate. It soon became apparent to Emma that her students were ready for competition so she decided to hold one for her school. Speed Stacks were happy to provide advice and to loan some additional equipment to help the competition run smoothly. We were also pleased to be invited along to help out on the day and were able to offer tips and guidance to the students has they practiced for the event. The event went very well and Emma not only did a great job organising the competition she and her colleague also did a great job judging the competitors! The 60 students from the school club had a fantastic time and are now looking for other schools to challenge! |

Event: Southend
School Sport Partnership Sport Stacking Competition
Having already helped to introduce Sport Stacking into schools across his partnership, when Peter Melville the PDM for Southend wanted to hold his first inter school Sport Stacking competition he asked Speed Stacks to help out. Speed Stacks were happy to oblige as this meant we would get an opportunity to meet up with many of the teachers and students who we had met during the implementation of school programs and would be able to see at first hand how they had progressed! The event was held at the Southend Tennis & Leisure Centre and was aimed specifically at students in years 1 & 2 (aged 5 >7). Approx 80 Students took part and participated in individual 3-3-3 & 3-6-3 events and a special timed 3-3-3 team relay. Everyone was impressed by the skills displayed by the students who all had a great time. Peter said he thought the competition was a success and that many of the parents and teachers had made positive comments. He has now scheduled another competition for his older students in May. |

Event: Southend
School Sport Partnership Sport Stacking Competition Following a previous successful competition for students in years 1-2 back in May 2006, Peter Melville the PDM for Southend organised and held his second School Sport Partnership Sport Stacking Competition. The event attracted approx 120 Students and was aimed at years 3-6 (aged 8 -11). After witnessing some great stacking by individuals in the previous competition Peter was even more impressed to see the level the older children had now obtained. The teachers and parents present were treated to a fantastic display of sport stacking and impressed by the skills displayed by the students who also had a great time. The 3-3-3 Stack produced a very close finish with Carly Toms winning in a fantastic time of 2.87 seconds ahead of Samantha Izod in 3.01 and Katy Binder with 3.31. Event: Colchester
Royal Grammar School’s Year 3/4 When SSCo Judy Mack decided she wanted to hold a sport stacking competition for pupils from schools in the Colchester & Tendering School Sport Partnership, she wasted no time and set about organising the event. Judy contacted Speed Stacks and invited us a long to the event, unfortunately
the date Judy had scheduled for her competition clashed with another
Inter School Competition that we at Speed Stacks were already involved
with and this meant we were unable to attend. Judy’s competition which involved approx 80 students went ahead as planned and was very successful. It was the first competition in her partnership and it gave Judy and her colleagues an opportunity to see just how eager their students were to compete and show off their Sport Stacking Skills. Speed Stacks
are pleased that Judy’s competition went so well
and turned out to be such a rewarding experience for all those involved. Most importantly we know that by giving students the chance to compete in competition we will promote practice and whilst they practice the students will develop and enhance skills that can be used in other sports or academically! Well Done Judy! |
